FITZROY emerged on the Reggae music scene in the mid 90’s regularly MC’ing on the ‘Ghetto Rock’ soundsystem in West Negril Jamaica. His raw lyrical wordsmithing gained the respect of acclaimed Reggae artist Lisa Danger who he collaborated with on his debut EP ‘Soul Inspiration’ at Bust Out studio in Kingston. Since moving to Australia in 2007 Fitzroy has been sharing his culture and the spirit of roots Reggae on his popular radio show ‘Reggae Mixtape’ from the 2NVR radio station based in the Nambucca Valley. Fitzroy draws inspiration from Reggae greats such as Tenor Saw, Chaka Demus and Yellowman, who he grew up listening to on the radio when he was a kid. In 2021 Fitzroy released a heartfelt EP entitled ‘More Spirit’ with Bellingen based music producer Alex Richardson. Fitzroy’s lyrics often reflect on the day-to-day struggles that came with living in the ghetto in Jamaica and the life lessons he has gained from overcoming those challenges. Fitzroy’s latest album ‘Nu Roots’ is a celebration of the strength of the human spirit. After dealing with the global challenges we have all been faced with in recent years Fitzroy said that it’s important for him to lay down new roots. He hopes that the album uplifts peoples’ spirits so that everyone can come together to celebrate love and joy and send out a message of hope and unity.
